The Art of Photography Show

Last weekend The Art of Photography Show happened here in the Gaslamp District of downtown San Diego. What an evening of excitement. The opening reception was packed shoulder to shoulder of the two story Lyceum Theatre with an audience curious to view each of the brilliant looking photographs. The types of images ranged all the over the board; fine art to commercial work, unmanipulated to manipulated imagery. It was a visually stimulating evening to say the least.

Before these images were selected for the photo exhibition / contest, 16,000 entries from 57 countries needed to be edited down to the core of 111 selected photos. Talk about a serious edit session for the show’s juror, Charlotte Cotton! Ms. Cotton is Curator and Department Head of Photographs at Los Angeles County Museum of Art. She’s a very educated person who’s word and opinion about photography as contemporary art is highly valued amongst the gallery scene.

Earlier this summer, Joel Muzzey emailed me about this show and encouraged me to submit my photography. I am quite glad I followed up on his suggestion. On June 20th I found out that one of the photos I entered was selected to be part of the show! This would be the first show/contest I’ve entered any of my photographs in. My intentions to submit imagery was not so much about being involved in a contest, but to begin an experience in sharing framed art and the feedback that comes with it.

Moonbow Over Yosemite Falls, Yosemite National Park, California.

I made this photo during the full moon in the first week of May 2009. This moonbow occurs very rarely; it depends on the amount of the water falling from Yosemite Falls and especially because of the angle of the moon at this time of the year.

Daydreaming from the offices of TW

by Chris Wellhausen on Jul.30, 2008, under Uncategorized

As I set here in the TWS office preparing images for our website launch and next issues, I am thinking of what a wicked season it was here in North America. There was plenty snow in all the best shred zones. The possibilities were endless. Traveling the extra mile was definitely a theme for my season. You can witness part of this by checking my latest photo gallery post from Mt. Baker.

Now that it’s the middle of summer, I focus on different adventures; surfing, mtn. biking, hiking, etc.. These activities are great ways of cross conditioning as we all anticipate the next time we will go shredding.

-Last weekend’s adventure to the top of Yosemite Falls before the smoke from the Mariposa fire came in.

As busy as we are here in the TW office, we are just as busy out there having fun. In June, we visited Camp of Champions in Whistler. What a RAGE! Check the photo galleries I & II

July is wrapping up and many shredders are beginning to organize Southern Hemisphere trips?stay posted to TWSNOW.com for the updates.
